UFC star Kron Gracie has claimed that ‘bad advice’ led to his disappointing defeat to Charles Jourdain at UFC 288.

The Brazilian-born fighter was defeated via unanimous decision against Charles Jourdain at the event in Newark, New Jersey on May 6.

Gracie made his much-anticipated return to the octagon, after a three-and-a-half-year hiatus, with many expecting a featherweight dominant performance.

However, a disappointing showing led to his loss on the night as Gracie was beaten significantly by his Canadian counterpart.

While some fans were still baffled by Gracie’s performance, the 34-year-old took to social media to explain why he “didn’t throw a punch” in the fight.

The 34-year-old suggested ‘bad advice’ led to him not throwing a ‘punch’ during the fight

On his Instagram account Monday afternoon, he said, “In a life of fighting, it has always been a fight to the death.

“I understand the situation and am willing to limit myself even though I didn’t throw any punches because of bad advice and tried to please the jiu-jitsu community two days before my fight. First fight in my life I didn’t throw a punch, back to my old ways.’

According to official UFC stats, Gracie landed a similar number of strikes to Jourdain – 171 compared to his opponent’s 175 – but it was in the significant strike division where the differences became apparent.

Gracie, who is now 1-2 in the UFC, only landed 32 significant strikes on Jourdain. In comparison, he absorbed 80 from the Canadian fighter.

Of those 80 significant blows, 59 landed on Gracie’s head. While he only managed to land 18 of his strikes on Jourdain’s head.

Gracie, the cousin of UFC legend Royce Gracie, built his career through Brazilian jiu-jitsu and had 40 professional fights before joining the UFC.

He won 29 of those bouts, with 24 submission wins, before joining rival MMA promotion Rizin and later the UFC.

His record in the UFC now stands at 1-2 after defeats to Jourdain and Cub Swanson followed his first win over Alex Caceres.
