Jones was expected to return at UFC 285 on March 4 in Las Vegas and face heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, but on Saturday night he confirmed that French star Ciryl Gane got the coveted fight.

Jones let the cat out of the bag in an interview with MMA star Henry Cejudo’s YouTube channel.

I’m glad I came here. Henry is so smart and a great leader and strategist. He’s been great, it’s been a great ride so far,” Jones said.

“Day one of four, just a few weeks before my first heavyweight championship against Cyryl Gane.”

Jones’ statement came just hours after a sign at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which will host UFC 285, announced the fight before either Jones or the governing body confirmed it.

Two photos of the billboard sparked a social media frenzy, with some fans believing the signage was a “behind-the-scenes mistake.”

The UFC had not made any official announcement of the fight, and it is not known if the clash will be for an interim belt or the heavyweight championship.

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou recently sparked speculation that he may be about to leave for a rival promotion after sharing photos of a family member wearing a Professional Fighters League jersey.

On December 10, ‘The Predator’ declared that his ‘second run was coming soon’ and that a ‘new chapter’ was about to begin, leading many to think that his days with the UFC were coming to an end.

Some experts believe his contract with the organization has expired, making him a free agent.
