Dana White is facing calls from California lawmakers to step down as UFC president after video surfaced of him slapping his wife in a Mexican nightclub on New Year’s Eve.

The California Legislative Women’s Caucus on Monday sent the open letter to Ari Emanuel, CEO of Endeavor, which is the media holding company that owns the UFC.

“Each day that Mr. White’s actions remain unexplained, his silence grows more pervasive and troubling,” the letter from state Sen. Nancy Skinner and Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry read. ‘At this point, thousands of men, women and young adults around the world have seen the video of Mr. White beating his wife. We have also seen his apology. What we have not seen is any consequence of his actions.

Endeavour’s spokespersons did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment.

The letter makes several references to White’s apology, in which she said there was no excuse for her behavior, and earlier statements expressing concern about domestic violence. In 2014, for example, she said “there’s one thing you never get over and that’s laying your hands on a woman.”

In their letter, Skinner and Aguiar-Curry use White’s earlier statements as the basis for his firing.

“The head of a major sports organization cannot claim to stand up for women’s safety while a video of him beating his wife continues to circulate online without a response from you,” the letter continued. ‘The hypocrisy is staggering. Enough is enough.’

Video of the incident first appeared on TMZ, showing Anne White slapping her husband of three decades inside a VIP area of a Cabo nightclub. White responded by slapping her multiple times and physically holding her down.

The couple have since issued statements, apologizing for the episode and insisting it was an isolated incident.

“This is one of those situations where it’s horrible, I’m embarrassed, but it’s also one of those situations where right now we’re most concerned about our children,” White said. “We have three children and obviously since the video came out, we showed the video to the children and we are more focused on our family at the moment.

I am literally not making excuses for this at all. It has never happened before. It’s the first time it’s happened. People are going to say what they are going to say and it is what it is. What people say deserves it. I deserve it.’

Anne White issued a statement here for TMZ.

“Dana and I have been married for almost 30 years,” he said. “To say this is out of character for him is an understatement. Nothing like this has happened before. Unfortunately, we were both drinking too much on New Year’s Eve and things got out of hand, on both sides. We have talked about this as a family and have apologized to each other. I just hope people respect our privacy for the sake of our children.

White, Anne and their three children live in Las Vegas, where the UFC does much of its business.
