UFC boss Dana White has claimed that the involvement of trans athletes in elite sport is ‘crazy’ and ‘insane’.

White, who was recently appointed as UFC CEO following the historic merger between the UFC and WWE, sat down with Talk TV host Piers Morgan on ‘Uncensored’ to discuss some personal and business matters.

One of these was the topic of trans athletes, which has attracted increasing debate in recent years, with a number of organizations choosing to introduce bans.

In May, British Cycling became the latest governing body to ban transgender women from racing in the women’s category and now White has joined the debate.

Speaking to Morgan, White explained: ‘I think you know exactly how I feel about that. I think so, let me put it this way.

“I have a daughter, I never want to see a day where someone who is a biological male competes with my daughter.

“No, I think it’s just another crazy, crazy thing that’s happening in the world today that we’re all trying to deal with.

“I’m just glad that’s not the case, my daughter is a cheerleader so she doesn’t play competitive sports, but in the cheer world that hasn’t happened yet.”

Earlier this year, British Cycling introduced a ban on trans women competing in all women’s category events to ‘ensure fairness of competition’.

Speaking on the matter, British Cycling CEO Jon Dutton said: ‘Our new policy is the product of a robust nine-month review process, which we know will have a very real impact for our community, both now and in the future.

‘I am confident that we have developed policies that will both safeguard the fairness of cycling competition and ensure that all riders have the opportunity to participate.’

British Cycling’s previous rules allowed transgender women to compete in the women’s category provided they had reduced their testosterone levels to below five nanomoles per liter for a period of twelve months.

However, they suspended that policy in April last year after Emily Bridges – who was previously at Great Britain’s Academy as a male rider called Zach – attempted to enter the women’s race at the National Omnium Championships, which she would have faced five times. Olympic champion Laura Kenny.

They have taken a different approach to weightlifting after New Zealander Laurel Hubbard was allowed to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in the women’s category after switching in 2012.

In the interview with Morgan, the UFC chief also revealed how his eldest son ignored him for four days after he was filmed punching his wife Anne during an argument at a club in Mexico on New Year’s Eve.

“I mean, everyone acted like there needed to be a big apology to the world,” White said. ‘No, the apology was to my children, to me and my wife.

“No one wants to see their stupid, drunk parents punching each other on TMZ, you know what I mean? Our oldest son didn’t talk to us for four days, and the other kids had to deal with some things too. It’s humiliating.”
