Check your Uber account now! Customer reveals the little-known glitch that could be costing you money

An Uber passenger has urged Australians to double-check their receipts after being charged twice for using a toll road during their journey.

The customer uploaded a copy of his receipt to social media on Wednesday after using the rideshare service for a trip in Melbourne.

‘There has been an outage that has affected both myself and a few colleagues. If you enter CityLink from Kings Way, you will have to pay the toll twice,” they wrote.

The receipt showed the passenger was charged $10.29 tolls twice while traveling on the West Gate Freeway from Kings Way to Toorak Road.

The additional costs were included in the additional travel costs charged to the customer, which included a booking fee of 85 cents and a government fee of $1.32.

The total cost of the fare was $61.49.

A spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia that Uber was aware of the disruption to some customers traveling on Melbourne’s CityLink toll road.

“We are working to repair the outage as quickly as possible and refund affected riders,” the spokeswoman said.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and encourage riders to contact our customer service team through the Help section of the Uber app if they have any questions about the charges on their ticket.”

Several Australians said they had also paid double the toll.

‘This happened to me too. They refused to refund,” one person wrote.

“It happened to me and they refunded the money straight away,” said another.

“Omg ridiculous,” a third added.

Others wondered why the glitch hasn’t been resolved, claiming they noticed the bug years ago.

‘I’ve had this many times [I] I was used to Uber home after work – they always refunded it, but so strange the problem persisted – this was before the Covid-19 crisis that I took that route,” one person wrote.

‘Is this still not resolved? I’ve been here almost as long as Uber has been in Melbourne,” said another.

Other riders indicated that they would be immediately compensated for the double tax.

‘I disputed this once and got the tolls refunded because they could have just taken it [the] Burwood Highway or the M3 to get to the suburbs,” said one.

It is understood that Uber is working to provide refunds to passengers affected by the error and affected customers have been urged to contact the rideshare company.
