Tyson Fury claims his fight with Oleksandr Usyk is ‘real boxing’ in put down to Anthony Joshua, despite struggling against Francis Ngannou last October

  • It comes just months after the gypsy king fought against Francis Ngannou
  • He will face Oleksandr Usyk for the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship

Tyson Fury has claimed his fight with Oleksandr Usyk is ‘real boxing’ in a dig at Anthony Joshua despite his struggles to beat Francis Ngannou last October.

Fury was ringside in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Friday night to watch Joshua knock out the former UFC champion in two rounds.

Joshua’s impressive performance came just months after Fury had previously beaten Ngannou, but only after he was pushed to his limits by the Cameroonian and was floored in the process against the boxing newcomer.

However, the Gypsy King was quick to dismiss Joshua’s victory, claiming that ‘real boxing’ will take place in May when he takes on Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

He said through talkSPORT’s Michael Benson: ‘Me and Oleksandr Usyk have an undisputed world heavyweight title fight coming up, and he just had a show fight – which is great for show, but for real real boxing it’s me and Usyk fighting for the number 1 position and undisputed.’

Anthony Joshua defeated Francis Ngannou in just two rounds with an explosive knockout

In Friday’s fight, Joshua looked comfortable from the opening bell, with the pair trading punches cautiously at first.

Ngannou had had success in both stances against Fury in October but was promptly punished for switching southpaws when Joshua floored him with a straight right.

The 37-year-old recovered to reach the second round, but any attempt to get back into the action would be quickly squelched as AJ sent him crashing to the canvas again.

This time it was clear that Ngannou was dazed and immediately after getting to his feet, Joshua landed an inch-perfect right hand that sent him crashing back to the ground.

Commenting on Joshua’s win, Fury told DAZN: ‘I’m sure Oleksandr Usyk has something to say about that.

‘I had a terrible performance against Ngannou. AJ did an absolutely fantastic job lighting him up with a right hand.

Fury went on to explain that he needs to beat Usyk twice before fighting Joshua, adding: “If he fights me after I beat Usyk twice, it’s going to be a different game.”

Meanwhile, promoter Eddie Hearn implored Eddie Hearn Fury to beat Usyk and make the ‘biggest fight in the history of the sport’.
