Tyreek Hill has jokingly wondered if his teammate Tua Tagavailoa is on Ozempic as he claimed the Dolphins’ now slimmed-down quarterback was “fat s***” last season during the team’s Organized Team Activities (OTAs) on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters at the Miami practice facility, the 30-year-old Hill was asked about his signal-caller’s unrecognizable appearance as several media outlets report that Tagavailoa has lost 25 pounds this season.
For context, Tagovailoa’s weight is listed at 227 pounds on the Dolphins website. He is also 6 feet tall.
“What I see of Tua, man… I’m not gonna lie… I saw Tua at the Pro Bowl… I was a little scared. He was fat as f*ck,” Hill said first.
“How skinny he’s gotten, what’s the stuff everyone’s taking… Ozempic? … He had to take that.”
Tyreek Hill didn’t hold back when discussing Tua Tagovailoa’s weight on Tuesday, describing his quarterback as “fat as shit” last season
Fellow Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle also joked about Tagovailoa’s dramatic body transformation.
“I told him I miss chubby Tua,” he told NFL Network.
Meanwhile, Tagavailoa said he lost weight simply by embracing a new route and reducing his sweet intake.
“Diet and exercise and cutting back on sugar,” the quarterback told the Palm Beach Post, adding, “I feel better.” Get on your feet faster. More agile. I can extend plays more.”
Tagovailoa also expressed lack of concern about his contract situation, though he would prefer it to be resolved sooner rather than later. The 26-year-old was drafted by Miami with the fifth overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, but has since played just one playoff game — a wild-card loss to the Kansas City Chiefs — last season.
Tagovailoa is entering the final year of his contract and will play in ’24 on a $23.1 million fifth-year option
He has missed a significant amount of playing time in the past due to concussions. This season, Tagovailoa will enter the final year of his rookie deal and will play in 2024 on a $23.1 million fifth-year option if a deal isn’t reached.
“I just want to get something done,” he admitted, “that’s it… Antsy might be a good word.”
Dolphins general manager Chris Grier wants to keep Tagovailoa in Miami long-term.
“We’ve been in contact since the start of the offseason,” Grier said in February. “Our goal is to try to get something done. … We will see. There is no timeline on it. Ultimately, you know how these deals are made. These are complicated deals.”
