Tyreek Hill mystery deepens as Dolphins GM insists star man did not ask for trade in ‘productive’ meeting

After Tyreek Hill said Sunday he was “out” of Miami after the first season of his career in which he didn’t make the playoffs, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has spoken of a “productive” meeting with him.

The Dolphins started the day, with help, one win away from a postseason berth. By the end of their time at MetLife Stadium, Hill had essentially said he wanted to play somewhere else.

Grier sat next to head coach Mike McDaniel and said a trade was not requested during the meeting with Hill.

Miami acquired Hill in a trade with the Chiefs for five picks. A similar move is expected to move one of the best wide receivers in the league. Should the Dolphins be open to moving Hill, there would undoubtedly be suitors.

“Mike and I both had conversations here with Tyreek…yesterday, productive conversations, I’ll keep those between us,” Grier said Tuesday. “All I’m saying is that in a frustrating season, he was emotional in a game where we had a chance, coming back from 2-6… and we’re playing Week 18 to sneak into the playoffs.”

“And I think all of that, as he played through his injuries, he kind of bubbled to some extent and from our conversations we keep that private again, but we had productive conversations… I would say he never asked me for a tradition has demanded. .’

Grier, general manager of the Dolphins, said Tuesday’s conversation with Hill was “productive.”

McDaniel suggested Sunday, doubling down on his comments, that Hill was not injured on Sunday and took himself out of the loss to the Jets.

“Yesterday we met for, I want to say, an hour,” McDaniel said. “I think I was very direct with him, he was very honest, and they were great terms that we discussed. “We discussed several things, including, without a doubt, that leaving the game is not acceptable and will not be tolerated in the future.”

“He embraced responsibility, and I wouldn’t say there was anything that necessarily needed to be fixed as much as we needed to clear the air in a rough and tumultuous situation.”

Hill’s season also got off to a controversial start off the field, when he was dragged from his car and handcuffed by Miami-Dade police on the way to the Dolphins’ season opener against the Jaguars, about a mile from Hard Rock Stadium.

Although Hill scored a touchdown that day, he did not follow up his NFL MVP-caliber season in 2023 with another season of similar quality.

After reworking his deal last year, Hill is under contract for two more seasons, with salary caps of $27.7 million (2025) and $51.9 million (2026), via OverTheCap.
