The principal of a New York City school is said to be “so rude she brings the staff to tears every day.”

Carla Ling is the director of PS/MS 20 in Norwood, in the Bronx. However, her manner seems to scare both her own staff and her superiors, which led to a petition being created to demand her resignation from her position.

In fact, Ling’s alleged antics make her seem more like Matilda’s fictional character Miss Trunchball, who rules her school with an iron fist but leaves staff and students cowering in her wake.

Parents and staff have raised concerns and filed complaints with the New York Department of Education about Ling’s alleged behavior, which details how he regularly yells at students and harasses staff by making them cry every day.

But despite her alleged bullying, Ling has also been accused of careless discipline when it comes to rowdy students, reportedly letting some kids run wild without any punishment.

‘We had a student throw a stack of lockers down the stairs. If someone had been hit by those lockers, he would have died. The children clogged the drains. Kids do all kinds of crazy things. She never disciplines any of them,’ a staff member told the New York Post.

Ling’s behavior was said to have been so outlandish that it shocked the school district’s deputy superintendent and led to her being formally reprimanded in writing in a March 2022 letter seen by the Mail.

Deputy Superintendent Fia Davis described Ling’s tone as “rude, sharp and short”. You interrupted me and hung up several times,’ she claimed, during a phone call in February.

Davis also called out Ling for being “inappropriate and unprofessional”.

“If he talks to his supervisor about this matter, I can only imagine how he talks to his subordinates,” Davis wrote, noting how the manager had “demonstrated unprofessional conduct and insubordination.”

On another occasion, during a phone call with a Department of Education staff member, Davis’ attention was drawn to how Ling had also yelled at him multiple times.

The report only adds to several other complaints made by members of the school community regarding Ling’s ‘tone and attitude’.

A petition it has now been created demanding Ling resign from his position. So far, 220 people have signed it, with some sharing more horror stories.

Parents of students at the school have now filed a petition asking for their removal.

‘Our students are not getting the allotted time they need to learn to read or write, and the hostility they have to see and hear on a daily basis is not only sad but terrifying. Ms. Ling berates and belittles her staff and her teachers in front of the students. Not to mention the way she behaves with children and parents. People are afraid of her or afraid to deal with her,” her petition reads.

“I, like most parents, see Ms. Ling every morning during arrivals yelling and yelling inappropriately at the children and on occasion at the parents…she avoids us by locking herself in her office and doesn’t talk to anyone. she or she will walk out of her office and speak to the parents in a nasty and disrespectful tone,” the petition continues.

His reign must end. She has created a hostile work environment that is detrimental to the mental health of all school staff and students alike… This is gross negligence on the part of the New York City Department of Education .

“This so-called ‘leader’ is a tyrant who abuses her power and manipulates to evade responsibility.”

Ling has yet to comment on the allegations against him.
