Tyla forced to cancel Coachella and world tour debut amid ‘agonizing’ health battle: ‘I’ve been silently suffering with an injury that has tragically worsened’
Tyla is postponing her upcoming 2024 world tour due to an ongoing injury.
The South African singer and songwriter took to her Instagram page on Thursday to announce the news and explain why she is canceling all shows, which were set to kick off on March 21 in Oslo, Norway and include a performance at Coachella in April.
“Over the past year, I have quietly suffered from an injury that has tragically worsened,” she wrote in a message to her 4.1 million fans and followers. ‘I have seen doctors and specialists with high expectations, but the pain has only become more painful, as has the severity of the situation.’
While she didn’t specify the exact injury, she did share how the success of the past year, which led to booking the tour and recording her upcoming self-titled album, “has been a lifelong dream.”
“I am absolutely heartbroken to have to say this, but as of now I cannot continue with the tour,” the 22-year-old native of Johannesburg, South Africa wrote. ‘In consultation with medical professionals, it has become increasingly clear that continuing any festival or tour dates would jeopardize my long-term health and safety.’

‘Words cannot describe my frustration at this crucial point in my career. So please know that my team and I are working hard to deliver a spectacular show for you once I recover and am ready to safely return to the stage this summer,” continued Tyla (born Tyla Laura Seethal).
She then informed her North American fans that their “tickets will be automatically refunded,” while international customers “will be contacted by your ticket provider about options.”
The starlet concluded her first statement by asking her fans to “keep an eye out for new dates and information.”
The Butterflies star would also try to end the post on a more positive note by reassuring her fans about her future.
“You’ll still see me around Tygers, so don’t worry too much. Just know that when I can perform pain-free again, I will be an even bigger problem,” she wrote.
In the wake of her recent success this past year, Tyla revealed that it was “hard to have to turn down opportunities you’ve been waiting for all your life, but God has His plan.”
Last year, Tyla achieved international fame with her hit single Water, which resulted in her very first Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in February.
The North American leg of the now-cancelled Tyla Tour was scheduled to kick off in San Francisco on April 22 and include 19 dates in cities including Seattle, Portland, New Orleans, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston and Toronto before ending in Minneapolis on May 28 . .

Tyla’s self-titled debut album is still scheduled for release on March 22, one day after the tour was originally scheduled to launch in Oslo, Norway.
The album was preceded by the three singles: Water, On And On and Truth Or Dare, and will contain a total of 14 songs, including the singles and a remix of Water (featuring Travis Scott).
Tyla started making music in high school by posting original songs and covers on her Instagram account and sending them to a number of music industry figures.
She was subsequently discovered by her first manager, Garth von Glehn, who subsequently organized her first recording sessions.
Tyla claims that she would hit the recording studio every weekend during her senior year of high school, which would eventually lead to her deal with Epic Records in 2021.
