Two sisters whose father was killed while defending Ukraine from the Russian invasion are facing jail after filming themselves dancing and twerking near the graves of fallen soldiers.

Amid furious reactions to the footage, the twerking couple defended themselves, claiming that their late father would have found their antics funny.

But the sisters eventually admitted they were wrong and that the video was inappropriate.

Police confirmed that the two unnamed girls will be charged with desecrating a grave, and now face up to five years in prison.

Phone footage showed the two young sisters — dressed in black crop tops and tight-fitting shorts — dancing as they stood among soldiers’ graves decorated with flowers and the Ukrainian flag.

They carried out the bizarre act while visiting their father’s grave at the Forest Cemetery in Kiev, Ukraine’s capital, on Aug. 24.

Their father was reportedly a soldier of the 95th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who was killed near Izium, in the eastern region of Donetsk.

Local law enforcement eventually saw the footage after the girls shared it on Instagram, where it sparked widespread outrage.

Ukrainian police tracked them down within an hour and arrested them.

Following the backlash, one of the sisters took to social media to apologize, saying, “My sister and I apologize. We honor every fallen soldier for our homeland.

‘We visited the grave of our fallen father, who died near Izium. Unfortunately, it was not very correct to post videos like this, even though it was not the intention to discredit heroes.’

She said she and her sister thought her father would have found the video and dancing humorous.

“Our behavior was related to our understanding of our late father’s view of funeral customs,” she said. “So we didn’t see anything wrong then, but now we regret it.”

Ukrainian police continue to investigate the incident.
