Two people injured after car doing burnouts at North Arm Cove crashed and caught fire – as the driver fled the scene

The driver of a Ford Falcon who lost control in a burnout left his car in flames after hitting a woman and a teenage girl, police claim.

They are said to have fled the scene after the car crashed into a utility pole and burst into flames in the NSW Hunter region at North Arm Cove near Port Stephens about 11.40pm on Friday.

The driver of the white Falcon was doing burnouts in front of a crowd of people when he lost control and hit two people, police allege.

A 20-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl were taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition with pelvic and leg injuries.

After the fire brigade extinguished the fire, the car was seized for forensic examination.

The police hope to be able to speak to the driver and are looking for any images.
