Two Pakistani men were sentenced to life in prison in Greece today for gang-raping an 18-year-old British woman on her sunbed after she spent a morning swimming on holiday.
The two men, aged 27 and 24, raped the Briton, whose name has not been released, in July 2022 on a beach in Rethymno, a town on the northern coast of Crete.
The Pakistanis, whose name has not been released, had approached the then 18-year-old as she was sunbathing on a tanning bed before launching their attack.
The young tourist, crying, told the court of Rethymno how the two men pressed her on the sunbed and raped her one after the other, reports the Olympia newspaper.
The woman had immediately reported the gang rape to authorities before the police could identify and arrest her attackers.

The 24-year-old unidentified Briton claimed the two teens assaulted her in her drunken state last week in a hotel room in Rethymno on the Greek island of Crete.
She claimed the pair filmed the assault on their mobile phones after meeting them at a bar in town earlier that evening.
The woman said the three had consumed alcohol and went back to the hotel where the two men were staying. She said she woke up naked the next morning and didn’t know where she was.
Both men were arrested and appeared in court on Monday, where they were released under restrictive conditions and fined.
The two are now free to fly back home, but must report monthly to the Greek Embassy in London.

But when they arrived at the hotel at 4 p.m. local time, the 23-year-old man followed her back to her room where he took off her clothes and again attempted to sexually assault her.
This time the woman managed to push him off and forced him to leave the room. The victim then left the hotel and reported the rape and assault to the Rhodes police.
Detectives began a manhunt for the Albanian man. He was found hours later and taken to the police station. He has been charged with rape, for which he could face ten years in prison.
He has now been released on the condition that he does not leave the country. The investigation continues.
