Two men are arrested after allegedly trying to STAB police with a screwdriver in the middle of Melbourne’s CBD

  • Two men were allegedly caught in a stolen Nissan ute in South Yarra on Thursday
  • As police tried to block car from leaving, the pair allegedly rammed into them
  • One man then allegedly pulled out a screwdriver and tried to stab the officers
  • Both men were arrested, with one taken to hospital with minor injuries

Two men have been arrested after they allegedly tried to stab police officers with a screwdriver.

Police were called to Arthur Street, in South Yarra in Melbourne’s inner city at about 4.15am on Thursday to find two men, aged 30 and 23, allegedly inside a stolen Nissan ute.

As officers attempted to block the men from driving away, they allegedly rammed into two police cars.

Police then tried to arrest the pair before one of them allegedly pulled out a screwdriver and attempted to attack the officers.

Both men were then pepper sprayed and arrested.

A 30-year-old man remains in hospital under police guard with minor injuries while a 23-year-old is assisting police with inquiries.
