Two men, ages 19 and 26, are dead and three others have been hospitalized after a Thursday night shooting in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood.
Crime continues to plague the Windy City, up a whopping 42 percent from this point in 2022, despite homicide dropping 14 percent as “progressive” Mayor Brandon Johnson is about to be inaugurated after the defeating incumbent Democrat Lori Lightfoot.
The shooting occurred around 5:35 p.m. Thursday when two people got out of an unidentified vehicle and fired at a group of people in the 600 block of West 61st Place.
According to Chicago police, five people were hit. The perpetrators fled the area and are still on the run.
The victims ranged in age from 17 to 26 years. A witness and cousin of one of the victims said they were “enjoying the nice weather” in front of a relative’s house when they were shot.

“A vehicle approaching Union, two individuals got out of that vehicle and the two individuals started firing into the street and hit five individuals,” said Chicago Police Department Deputy Chief Matt Cline.
The 19-year-old victim was hit in the shoulder and later pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Hospital.
The 26-year-old was hit ‘in the body’, according to police, and was later pronounced dead at the same hospital.
The three other victims – a 17-year-old man, 21-year-old man and 26-year-old woman – were all sent to local hospitals.
The 17-year-old and 21-year-old were described as being in “good condition,” while the woman’s condition was listed as unknown. NBC Chicago said she was listed as “stable.”
Authorities said some children were nearby during the shooting, but none were injured.

Police have cordoned off about half of the street where the shooting took place. Dozens of shell casings were said to have been left at the scene and found on the lawn of a house.
One woman, who declined to give her name, said she’s lived there since 1978 and says things have changed in crime-ridden Chicago.
“It seems the new generation doesn’t care about the future,” she said. “They’ve lost hope.”
Police are still investigating and the gunmen are still at large.
