Two killed after plane crashes into trailer park in Colorado

Two people have died after a plane crashed into a home in northern Colorado, sparking a raging fire that engulfed two properties at the site.

The pilot and a passenger were killed when their Cessna 421 plane crashed Monday evening in West Acres Mobile Park, Steamboat Springs police said.

Two trailers were “engulfed” by flames during the fireball crash, but the residents have since been missing, according to the Routt County Sheriff’s Office.

Steamboat Springs police said the pilot and a passenger of the Cessna 421 plane died Monday at West Acres Mobile Park

“The Routt County Coroner is notifying next of kin. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” Steamboat Springs Police said.

“West Acres Mobile Park is open to residents only. We ask that people be respectful and stay away from the incident location while the investigation is ongoing.

‘Fire and police will be on site all evening and night.’

Routt County Sheriff’s Office described the plane as a Cessna 421 light aircraft – a twin-engine aircraft with six or seven seats.

The plane is believed to have taken off from Longmont, Colorado, and was headed to Ogden, Utah, Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue said.

Dramatic photos show trailers on fire as dozens of emergency workers rush to extinguish the raging blaze.

The city said 10 off-duty firefighters and emergency responders worked to extinguish the blaze at two homes and several outbuildings.

Footage taken later in the day shows smoke rising from the mobile homes, two of which were left as blackened carcasses.

One woman said her mother-in-law’s home was destroyed in the crash. “We are speechless and devastated,” she wrote on social media.

She added that no one lived in the house and they were trying to sell it.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
