An urgent manhunt continues for two dangerous inmates who escaped from a north Queensland prison.
Vaughn Michael James Hunter and Fabien Brian Galigan are on their third day on the run after fleeing the Townsville Correctional Center on Sunday evening.
It is understood the pair ‘walked out’ of the facility’s low-security holding farm at around 9pm and were last captured on CCTV walking along the Bruce Highway.
Hunter is serving 10 months for serious assault and Galigan is serving two years and six months for wounding.
The pair remain on the run as of Tuesday morning as the search intensifies involving multiple police units and corrective services.

“Two inmates have walked away from Townsville Prison,” Townsville District Officer Chief Inspector Chris Hodgman said on Monday.
“They were spotted on CCTV along the Bruce Highway so we deployed some skilled people to try and catch up with those gentlemen.”
He added that it is still unclear how the prisoners managed to leave the prison.
Anyone who sees the men is urged to call Triple-0 immediately.
“I would ask people not to approach these individuals,” Chief Inspector Hodgman added.
‘I would ask people to be careful and contact police if they come across these two.’
