The siblings, a boy and a girl, were discovered on the floor of their Bronx home Monday morning.
A cause of death for the twins was not immediately clear as there were no signs of trauma on their bodies, the New York Post reported.
The children's mother told police she put them down while she was taking a shower, but when she returned they felt cold.
First responders pronounced the children dead at the scene.
