Two Football League matches have been postponed due to Arctic weather conditions.
Fleetwood’s match with Wimbledon and Chesterfield’s match against Gillingham have both been called off after heavy snowstorms.
Officials this morning decided to call off League Two fixtures, with Liverpool and Manchester United nervously waiting to see if their showdown will be suspended.
Liverpool have been issued an amber weather warning by the Met Office, but it only took a yellow warning due to snow and ice for Fleetwood’s match at Highbury Stadium to be called off.
Meanwhile, a yellow warning for snow and ice, as well as an enhanced orange warning for snow only, has been slapped on Chesterfield.
Fleetwood shared a photo of their frozen pitch as they confirmed the bad news in a statement to supporters.

“Due to the condition of the field and surrounding area as a result of heavy snowfall on the Fylde Coast on Saturday night into Sunday morning, an appeal was made in consultation with the EFL and PGMOL,” the Cod Army wrote.
‘A new date will be communicated to supporters as soon as possible and tickets for the match will remain valid for the rescheduled match.’
The visit to Chesterfield was made early after a field inspection was carried out at 7.45am.
However, officials will take longer to make a decision on the Premier League’s blockbuster 4.30pm match.
Liverpool City Council’s Safety Advisory Group met at 9am this morning and will meet again at 12pm to make a final decision.
Images on social media show a layer of snow covering the ground on the streets around Anfield, with one fan claiming it ‘looks like Siberia’.
Liverpool wrote on X at 9.31am: ‘A safety meeting was held this morning to assess the weather and travel conditions for today’s match against Manchester United at Anfield.
‘At this stage the intention is for the match to continue as normal and every effort is being made to get the match underway. Another safety meeting will take place at 12:00 to review the latest conditions. We will inform supporters as soon as possible. Please be extra careful, Reds.”

The Met Office’s north-westerly weather forecast for the day called for ‘heavy snow, causing some disruption’.
It said: ‘Snow to the north and across the Pennines, which may be heavy in places during the morning and early afternoon. It will rain in the southern areas, with a chance of sleet for some. The snow will decrease tonight. Maximum temperature 2 °C.’
In December, the match between Liverpool and Everton was called off just four hours before kick-off due to the chaos caused by Storm Darragh. It would be the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park and will take place on an unconfirmed date.
Storm Darragh caused widespread damage across the country with winds of up to 150km per hour, causing travel chaos and damage and leaving thousands of people without power.
