Two dead, including a child, and 32 hospitalized after cement truck slammed into school bus on its way back from field trip in Texas

Two people have been killed, including one child, after a school bus crashed and overturned in Texas.

The tragic incident happened Friday around 2:50 p.m. on West State Highway 21, near Caldwell Road in Bastrop County, about 50 minutes outside of Austin.

Hays Consolidated Independent School District confirmed the bus was carrying 44 Tom Green Elementary School students and 11 adults on their way home from a field trip at the Bastrop Zoo.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the cement truck crashed into the school bus just before a driver of a Dodge Charger crashed into the bus.

One student, who was on the bus, and the male adult driver in the car died, officials said.

“Please pray for the families of Tom Green Elementary School,” Mayor Lee Urbanovsky said in a Facebook post.
