Two dead as light planes collide in mid-air as farmers report hearing massive explosion
Two people have been killed in a tragic mid-air collision between two planes in south-east Queensland that caused a loud bang that was heard by farm workers.
Emergency services rushed to the site of the plane crash in Kybong, just south of Gympie, on Wednesday afternoon.
But despite their best efforts, one person from each plane died on the spot.
According to reports, a plane collided with a glider it was towing and then both crashed into a paddock courier post reported.
Nearby farm workers reported hearing a loud explosion in the accident.
The incident was reported to emergency services around 2:50 p.m.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services dispatched three crews to the accident site on Glory Hill Road, just south of Gympie Aerodrome.
