Explosive security camera footage sheds light on the moments before a student driver’s mother was run over by a truck and killed.

Leonia Picone, 55, was killed after a lorry rear-ended her black Ford Mondeo – driven by her 17-year-old son on his L plates – on Cowpasture Road, in Wetherill Park, western Sydney, at about 6.20am in August. 30.

Mrs. Picone had gotten out of the car after the accident and waved at the lorry driver, but was mowed down by the trailer after he apparently failed to see her in his blind spot.

Now a video obtained exclusively by Daily Mail Australia appears to show how the disastrous chain of events came about.

The footage, captured about 400 feet away, indicates that the L-plater may have overtaken the Kenworth truck in the left lane just before the tragedy.

According to this theory – which is supported by some witnesses, including Jayden Merrick who works nearby – the truck drove up behind Ms Picone’s car shortly afterwards.

The vision began at 6:19 a.m. as the truck exited a roundabout and entered the center lane on Cowpasture Road, followed by two smaller trucks.

Fifteen seconds later, Mrs. Picone’s black sedan was seen passing through the same roundabout and entering the left lane.

By the time both vehicles arrived at a stoplight on Horsley Drive, the mother’s car was in front of the lorry.

A vision released last week showed the truck had pulled into behind the sedan just before the lights in the left lane.

Ms. Picone’s son then turned onto a side street while the truck remained on the main road.

She got out got out of her car, stood in front of the truck and waved her arms to get the driver’s attention, but he accelerated and ran her over.

Mr Merrick said her body was dragged across the road under the semi-trailer.

The truck came to a stop about 500 feet from where Mrs. Picone was hit.

Her son was standing just a few feet away from her at the time and saw the whole thing.

Truck drivers and road safety experts analyzed the footage and previously suggested that the truck driver could not have seen Ms Picone on the road due to the size of his vehicle.

“You have to understand that we are very high up and away from the dashboard,” said truck driver Aaron Farquhar.

“Someone standing in front of the truck won’t be seen and if we hit him you won’t even feel him because of all the vibrations and weight of the truck.”

Following last Wednesday’s tragedy, the lorry driver was taken to hospital for mandatory tests and questioned by police.

He was released without charge, pending further investigation.

Ms Picone’s family were furious when he was released, criticizing the police for a ‘lack of communication’.

On Tuesday, a NSW police spokesperson said the matter was still under investigation and could not provide any further update.
