Twist in the case of NRL star Junior Amone after he was accused of allegedly attacking a tradie with a HAMMER on a roof, leaving him with serious injuries

St George Illawarra Dragons young gun Junior Amone will be released from custody within hours after police said in court on Friday they would grant him strict bail.

Detectives arrested the NRL star at his home in Wollongong on Thursday over allegations that he and his father Talatau were involved in an armed attack last month, which left a roofing contractor with serious injuries, including broken arms and a damaged hip.

The defendant was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm (in company), destroying property and intimidation.

Amone is tackled during the Charity Shield NRL Trial Match between South Sydney Rabbitohs and St George Illawarra Dragons at Glen Willow Sporting Complex on February 26.

He was initially formally denied bail.

After a brief mention of his case at Wollongong Local Court on Thursday, he was taken into custody and spent the night in police holding cells.

However, prosecutor sergeant Chris Manning said in court on Friday that police did not object to Amone’s release as long as strict bail conditions were met.

A number of friends and family members attended the court proceedings on Friday to support the young playmaker.

His father, Talatau Dal Amone, was also arrested for the same incident. The bail request for Amone Senior was denied at the time and he remains in custody.

The attack is alleged to have occurred on November 15 this year near the star’s home in Wollongong, on the south coast of New South Wales.

Court documents allege the dealer got into a dispute with Amone’s father over where he parked his car before Amones and an unidentified man confronted him.

It is alleged that Junior was armed with a hammer, which he threw at the victim.

The dealer allegedly ran to a nearby property and climbed onto the roof to escape, but was followed by Junior Amone, who threw a hammer at him.

The victim is alleged to have fallen from the roof as a result, striking an air conditioning unit as he fell.

Then Junior Amone is alleged to have yelled, ‘Get it.’

The alleged victim was followed to another house, according to the documents, where she collapsed and called Triple Cero.

The documents allege that a police dog squad officer arrived on the scene and saw Junior Amone on the roof, still armed with the hammer.

It is also alleged that the young Amone and the unknown man jumped onto the roof of the dealer’s vehicle, damaging the car and breaking the windshield.

The Dragons issued a statement saying the Junior Amone matter has been referred to the NRL Integrity Unit.

Amone made headlines earlier this week when footage surfaced of Dragons’ star wrestling teammate Zac Lomax in a training camp.

A fan-recorded vision showed Lomax and Amone had to be separated after an ugly confrontation during the club’s three-day camp in Mollymook, some 200km south of Sydney.

‘They are young guys who didn’t want to let one of them get the better of the other. They don’t want anybody to put themselves ahead of them for a spot,” Aaron Woods told the daily telegraph.
