Minnesota Twins shortstop Kyle Farmer took a 92 mph throw in the face on Wednesday before leaving the field under his own power.

The 32-year-old journeyman infielder was hit under the rim of his helmet by Chicago White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito, who immediately covered his own face in horror after witnessing the impact.

“My goodness,” replied White Sox announcer Steve Stone. ‘Oh no.’

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli promptly rushed to Farmer, along with members of Minnesota’s training staff.

Farmer lay face down for a few minutes while the Gemini tended to him before climbing to his feet and walking slowly to the dugout with a towel pressed to his face and his head bowed.

The initial diagnosis was announced by the Twins as a jaw injury after Giolito’s 150 mph throw ran in and knocked Farmer to the ground.

Willi Castro entered as a pinch-runner for Farmer, who was purchased with Cincinnati in the off-season. He started seven of twelve games for the Twins, filling in at second base for Jorge Polanco and more recently as short stop for Carlos Correa.

Polanco (left knee inflammation) is on the injured list along with three other regulars: Joey Gallo, Max Kepler and Alex Kirilloff. Correa (mid-back spasms) missed his fourth game in a row on Wednesday. He could return to the lineup on Thursday.

Farmer is currently in his freshman year at Minnesota and is best known for his four-year stint at Cincinnati, where he hit 30 home runs over the past two seasons.

The Atlanta native is a married father, who currently has a $5.5 million one-year deal with Minnesota.

According to Spotrac, he has earned more than $10 million during his seven-year career.
