For the first time in their lives, twin brothers Amen and Ausar Thompson are going to live separately after being picked by different teams in the NBA Draft.

The Thompson twins are the first sibling ever to be included in the top five when they were taken back to back. Amen was taken first, as the Houston Rockets selected him fourth overall. Then, with the next pick, Ausar was selected by the Detroit Pistons.

But while cleaning up their house, Amen explained that they had to divide some of their more valuable possessions among themselves.

“He gets to keep the PS5,” Amen explained. ‘I have to buy one. That is the most important [contested item] so far.

“But we also fought over shoes… those Jordan Travis Scotts, he has them too. I lose everything. It’s like a bad divorce.”

The Thompsons are the fifth twins to be selected in the same draft in NBA history

The twins are the first pair to be selected since Markieff and Marcus Morris were taken back-to-back in 13th and 14th place in the 2011 NBA Draft from Kansas.

Amen and Ausar did not attend college, opting instead for the Overtime Elite basketball league.

That league was established in 2021 and gives players a minimum salary of $100,000 per year, as well as a signing bonus, stock in a company and participation in an academic program.

These brothers were the first players drafted into the NBA from the Overtime Elite program.

The Thompsons are the fifth pair of twins to be chosen in the same NBA draft, joining the aforementioned Morris twins as well as Dick and Tom Van Arsdale in 1965, Jason and Jarron Collins in 2001, and Brook and Robin Lopez in 2008.

Horace and Harvey Grant were also twins drafted into the NBA, but they were selected in different years – with Horace in 1987 and Harvey in 1988.
