TV vet Dr. Katrina Warren breaks down remembering her late Harry’s Practice co-star: ‘He was part of my identity’

Dr. Katrina Warren has opened up about the loss of her beloved dog Toby.

The famously cheerful border collie, who died in 2010, was the 56-year-old’s co-star in Seven’s long-running pet show Harry’s Practice (1997-2003).

Katrina’s beloved companion, known as Toby the Wonderdog, also appeared on Channel Ten’s children’s program Totally Wild.

“He was part of my identity,” an emotional Katrina admitted during this week’s episode Jess Rowe big talk show.

And Katrina offered advice to anyone suffering the loss of a beloved pet.

She admitted that she is struggling with her grief, telling listeners, “You just have to push through the grief.”

The vet added that it is important to have people around who can offer support and compassion.

“Unfortunately, we have a world of people who say things like ‘it’s just a cat, it’s replaceable, get another one,’” she continued.

‘Comments like this just make people hide behind a door.

‘The only thing you can do to deal with it is keep yourself busy. One day the tears will turn into smiles when you think of the memories.”

Elsewhere in the chat, podcast host Jess Rowe, who recently lost her cat Violet, asked Katrina why she thought losing a pet was so difficult.

“Grief is sadness,” Katrina said, adding that many people have admitted to her that losing a pet was harder than losing a family member.

‘They give you unconditional love, they don’t judge you and you can’t say that there are always human relationships.

“Your pets just warm your heart and that’s why we mourn their loss because we’re so used to that joy….”

In 2019, Katrina shared a heartfelt tribute to the late dog Facebook.

Katrina rose to fame on Channel 10’s children’s program Totally Wild in 1994.

She then appeared on Seven’s Harry’s Practice from 1997 to 2003 as a veterinarian, alongside Dr. Chris Brown.

Warren later hosted Beverly Hills Vet in 2003 and Housecat Housecall in 2008 on Animal Planet in the US.
