A TV legend you may recognize from classic sitcom Desmond’s has reportedly joined the cast of Coronation Street.

Iconic star Ram John Holder, 89, has bagged a role on the cobbles and has already started filming his scenes in Manchester.

The actor, who is best known for playing the character Pork Pie on the sitcom, will play Ed Bailey’s father, Sarge (Trevor Michael Georges).

According to The sunsaid a TV insider: ‘Ram is already filming his scenes in Weatherfield, although viewers won’t see them for months.

“It is a substantial role for him to have been cast, although it will come as second nature that he is a seasoned star of multiple dramas, including soaps.”

Ram has already appeared in EastEnders, Emmerdale, Doctors, Casualty, The Bill and Heartbeat.

The star, whose real name on Desmond’s Augustus Neapolitan Cleveland Grant, appeared on the legendary show in 1989 but claimed the nickname ‘pork pie’, because of a hat he always wore.

It comes after viewers were left in tears following a dramatic ‘end of an era’ during Wednesday night’s episode of Corrie.

Earlier this week, the Rover Return closed for extensive refurbishment, with all staff having their contracts terminated with immediate effect.

However, during tonight’s show the pub was closed, leaving fans shocked and some in tears.

Farewell to Rovers as we know them,’ along with a broken heart.

Fans took to the comments section, with some calling the closure ‘heartbreaking’ and others calling the pub a ‘landmark’.

One person said: ‘Why mess with perfection? The Rovers is Rovers! A landmark in Weatherfield!’

Another wrote: ‘Too heartbreaking.’

‘The street would not be the same without the return of the robbers. It’s the heart and soul of the street,” said a third.
