TV host launches into furious Joe Burrow rant and slams ‘nonsense lie’ being told about Cincinnati Bengals QB

Fox TV host Nick Wright launched into an impassioned defense of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, with fans claiming it could mean “the end” for him.

Burrow has been the subject of intense speculation on social media over the past two days after video surfaced showing him struggling with a wrist injury.

While Burrow has since dispelled concerns about his health, fans say he may never be the same player again. Wright strongly disagrees.

In a furious retaliation on “First Things First” on Wednesday, Wright said, “I found Joe Burrow’s commentary over the last 72 hours to be bordering on hysterical, and downright ridiculous. Where is this energy for Joe that we have for Lamar? [Jackson]that we have for Josh Allen?

“Joe Burrow is a spectacular quarterback, and his only weakness when he’s healthy is that he’s somewhat limited physically. He doesn’t have the strongest arm, he’s not the most agile, he’s not the strongest. He’s capable of performing at a super-high level despite the fact that he’s probably around league average in terms of measurables.

“That’s why he’s a guy who, if he’s not close to 100%, looks terrible. His calf is a little bit battered, he can’t play well. If his wrist is really hurting, you can see it.

“But this idea that has been spread online and by other talk show hosts that he has been doing bad for two years is a lie. It is nonsense!”

Wright then reflected on his previous opinions about Burrow, who entered the league as the first-round pick out of LSU in 2020.

He has since played four seasons in the NFL and enters his fifth year with the Bengals with many question marks.

“We had a conversation on this show last year when he injured his wrist right before the game: ‘Can he be the MVP of the league?’” Wright continued.

“From weeks five through nine, he looked like the best quarterback of the year. That was after a two-year stretch where he was the second-best quarterback of the year.

“We’ve seen Joe Burrow win in big moments and play great in big moments, we’ve seen him go into Josh Allen’s house and outplay him. We’ve seen Joe Burrow have two playoff runs that were better than any playoff run that Lamar has ever had.

“Listen, am I worried about him? If his wrist is really still hurting, he’s not going to be good. Do I think we overestimated Joe Burrow? I think, ‘Oh, time for the receipts on Joe Burrow.’ I think people are idiots.

“I think he’s clearly one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and he’s certainly been that the last four years.”

In September 2023, Burrow signed a five-year, $275 million contract extension. He is the highest-paid player in NFL history on an annual basis, with an annual salary of $55 million.
