Even NBC News host Vicky Nguyen suffers from a “mom brain moment” every now and then.
On Thursday’s episode of TODAY, the 45-year-old journalist, known for her Emmy-winning reporting and chic on-air looks, accidentally made a fashion mistake after forgetting a key part of her outfit.
Despite looking sharp through most of the segment, her colleague, Peter Alexander, couldn’t resist the urge to call out Nguyen about her choice of shoes, which he described as “Christmas slippers.”
“Would you like to pull up your heels?” he asked as the cameras panned to her neon UGG slippers, which clashed with her purple suit.
“Oh no no,” the mother of three replied, laughing as he drew attention to her wardrobe malfunction.
In response to his teasing, she explained, “Look, this is the day after Christmas… It was kind of a mommy brain moment where I thought I had the shoes, but I didn’t have the shoes.”

Nguyen thanked the Today director for keeping her shoes out of sight until Alexander brought them up.
“Listen, they’re very comfortable, I’ll say,” she mused.
Meteorologist Dylan Dreyer said: ‘We all want a cozy feeling after Christmas, right? We ate too much! We’re just tired!’
Laura Jarrett joked to Alexander that he “never came out of the doghouse” for pointing out Nguyen’s shoes.
Nguyen, who shares three daughters with her husband Brian, has been a regular on NBC News since April 2019.
After the episode aired, she reposted a clip of the moment with the cheeky caption: “That time @peteralexandertv lashed out at me for wearing slippers. You have me. This is normal Vicky in her natural habitat. Business on top, Uggs on the bottom.”
The comments were flooded with viewers praising Nguyen’s UGG slippers.
