- The Korean Air plane had departed from Incheon and was en route to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Fourteen people were injured after a Korean plane en route to Mongolia suddenly crashed during turbulence, throwing people onto the roof.
The Korean Air plane had departed from Incheon on Sunday, August 4, and was en route to the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar when it encountered severe turbulence.
Ten passengers and four flight attendants on board flight KE197 were injured after complaining of back and neck pain.
The plane reportedly shook for about 15 seconds while flying at an altitude of 10,393 meters (34,100 feet) near Tianjin airport in China.
A person reportedly on the plane said: ‘The plane suddenly crashed, causing people to scream and all the food to be knocked over, it was chaos.’

Another passenger on the plane said that passengers who were not wearing seatbelts were shot through the air. One person hit the ceiling and ended up in the aisle.
According to reports, a medical team was on site at Mongolia’s airport to treat the injured.
There were reportedly 281 passengers on board the flight.
This comes after one person was killed and others injured on a flight from London to Singapore in May after the plane plummeted for several minutes in extreme turbulence before making an emergency landing in Thailand.
The Boeing 777 aircraft encountered severe turbulence while flying close to Myanmar airspace and descended sharply from an altitude of about 37,000 feet to 31,000 feet in just five minutes.
The terrified passengers said they had barely had time to fasten their seat belts before the plane suddenly crashed.
People who were not wearing seat belts reported being “launched into the ceiling.”
Also last month, 30 people were injured in the head, face and spine by extreme turbulence on a flight from Madrid to Montevideo.
