Kevin Spacey took on his role as power-hungry politician Frank Underwood to critique American politics and discuss his own potential run for the White House.

In a Sunday interview with Tucker Carlson on

Spacey – like Underwood – said, β€œThis country is so mired in contradiction and confusion. We don't even know how to help anyone anymore because we can't agree on who needs help.'

β€œI mean, what doesn't come with a trigger warning these days? I mean, we're way too close to having a beanbag chair in the Oval Office. We pampered everyone.'

In announcing his own potential run for the White House, Spacey – as Underwood – said: β€œWe need someone in the White House who is not afraid, like me.”

It's a familiar role for Spacey, who played Underwood on the hit Netflix show for five years.

He was fired by Netflix in 2017 after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, including some by fellow House of Cards cast members.

Last year, Spacey and his production companies were ordered to pay $31 million for losses incurred upon his firing.

He then went on trial in July on charges brought against four different men in Britain and was acquitted of all criminal charges.

Discussing the allegations with Carlson, he said: “It's bizarre that they decided to publicly cut ties with me based on allegations alone – allegations that have now been proven to be false – because I don't think there were any there is no doubt about it: Netflix exists because of me.

Spacey added that he needed a running mate and asked if Carlson was ready for the job.

Carlson replied, “I'm going to sleep on it.”

Discussing his thoughts on the country's social attitudes, Spacey said, “Okay, you think you're a bunny?” That's fine.

When asked which party he would run for, Spacey said it would likely be as an independent. He said: β€œI have always been independent all my life, regardless of my party affiliation, even if I don't fully recognize my identity at the moment. old party.'
