  • The former Fox News host told a festival in Hungary that the US ‘hates’ Russia because it is a ‘Christian country’
  • He said Russia is like Hungary in that both are “built on Christian precepts” and claimed that this was “enough to incite US policymakers.”
  • Carlson made these comments amid claims in Moscow that he is trying to arrange an interview with Vladimir Putin

Tucker Carlson has claimed that the United States “hates” Russia because “it’s a Christian country” — amid claims in Moscow that he is trying to land an interview with Vladimir Putin.

The former Fox News star told MCC Feszt, a social, political and cultural festival in Hungary, that Russia is like Hungary in that both nations are “built on Christian precepts.”

“That’s enough to turn on our policymakers in the United States and that’s exactly why they hate Russia,” he said.

Carlson told the audience at the festival – which ran until the last weekend in July – that he is “not a fan of Russia.”

He added: “One thing Russia and Hungary have in common is that a large part of the population identifies as Christian. Why would that be provocative?

‘A large proportion of Malaysians identify as Muslim. Fine with me. But Washington is not doing well at all, it is very insulting to see that alive in Europe. And that is the essence: it is not rational, this happens at an emotional level, but is expressed in policy.’

Hungary, a member of both the European Union and NATO, has come under scrutiny from Western leaders for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s favorable approach to Russia and his reluctance to support military aid to Ukraine.

The country has also drawn criticism following the recent passage of laws that critics say place restrictions on LGBTQ rights. The US has publicly denounced the legislation.

An excerpt of Carlson’s 27-minute speech was posted on X, while the editor-in-chief of Russia Today, the Kremlin-controlled Russian news organization, said Carlson was trying to land an interview with Putin.

Margarita Simonyan, the editor-in-chief of the Kremlin-controlled news channel RT, said Tucker Carlson has been trying to get an interview with Vladimir Putin.

Carlson also tried to broker a talk with Putin — pictured at a meeting at the Kremlin in Moscow, Russia Monday, August 28, 2023 — in 2021, according to reports

Simonyan told a broadcast on Russian channel Rossiya-1: “(Carlson) is urgently asking for an interview with Vladimir Putin. It would be great if someone would listen and let the president know.” Simonyan pictured with Putin in December 2022

In comments translated from Russian, she said that Carlson is “doing a great job” and is “the most popular presenter in all of American history.”

Carlson attempted to record an interview with Putin earlier in 2021, when he discussed the plan with “Kremlin intermediaries,” Axios reported.

Carlson has moved his show to X since he was fired from Fox earlier this year in the wake of the network’s $787 million settlement with vote-counting company Dominion.

He interviewed former President Donald Trump last week in a snippet that was “viewed” more than 250 million times, though critics say that number isn’t a reliable measure of success because it includes everyone who saw the post, regardless of whether they went to a of the videos watched. It.
