A new 2024 White House poll shows former President Donald Trump has his biggest lead over President Joe Biden in more than a year.
An investigation by Rasmussen Reports released Wednesday gives Trump a seven-point lead over Biden, polling most respondents after the ex-president was indicted Thursday.
In a general election contest, 47 percent of likely American voters said they would vote for Trump, while 40 percent said for Biden.
This is an early sign that Trump may be able to capitalize on his legal troubles, as Republican voters are currently on his side.
The new Rasmussen poll found that Trump would receive the support of 83 percent of self-identified Republicans and 44 percent of independents.

Even 17 percent of Democrats told pollsters they would elect the ex-president.
Biden, who has not been charged with a litany of state crimes, is receiving less support from his own party and independents.
Polls showed that 70 percent of Democrats said they would support the current resident of the White House, while 36 percent of independents said they would support Biden.
He also has the support of 11 percent of Republicans.
General, the polling average of Real Clear Politics gives Trump 1.8 points ahead of Biden in a general election contest.
The two most recent 2024 general election polls, both largely conducted in April, both show Trump in front.
Trump was indicted on March 30 and charged with crimes on Tuesday.
President Joe Biden trails both Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in new Rasmussen 2024 general election poll
The Republican announced his presidential ambitions for 2024 in mid-November, while Biden has yet to make his re-election official.
For weeks, Trump allies boasted that an impeachment would help him politically, rallying the Republican base around the ex-president protesting the barrage of investigations and labeling them as politically charged.
In another sign of MAGA strength, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is performing against Biden about the same as Trump.
Rasmussen’s poll shows that both DeSantis and Trump beat the Democratic president.
DeSantis beats Biden by 46 percent to 38 percent.
Pollsters found that the “Trump Only” fraction of GOP voters was about 10 percent Republicans, with that group saying they would choose a different candidate if DeSantis was the nominee in 2024.
Only 5 percent of Republicans said they would vote for a third party if Biden and Trump were the respective Democratic and GOP nominees.
Rasmussen’s poll of 971 likely U.S. voters was conducted on March 30, the day of Trump’s impeachment, as well as April 2 and 3, giving it a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.
