Donald Trump is one step closer to achieving his goal of adding Greenland to the US
The president-elect has been pondering for years about a possible Americanization of the island, which is currently part of Denmark.
Those ambitions have been reignited in recent weeks, as Trump has openly discussed making Canada the 51st U.S. state, reclaiming the Panama Canal and renaming the Gulf of Mexico.
The Republican recently reiterated his call to bring the Arctic island to the US, and he does not rule out using force to do so.
He has reiterated that he is taking the prospect seriously, posting on Truth Social last week “This is a deal that has to happen” and “Make Greenland great again!”
Danish Prime Minister Mute Egede has repeatedly said that Greenland is not for sale.
Donald Trump Jr., the incoming president’s eldest son, even made a trip to Greenland last week to meet with locals who appeared to be in favor of joining the US.
In an effort to clear the way for the Danish territory’s possible entry into the U.S. union, Rep. Andy Olges, R-Tenn., introduced a bill Monday to allow the president-elect to begin negotiations with his European Union Director.
Donald Trump has not ruled out the use of military force to take the Panama Canal and Greenland and announced a bold plan at a press conference last week to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the ‘Gulf of America’.
Donald Trump was reportedly first interested in taking over Greenland in 2019. At the time, the Danish prime minister called the proposal absurd, but now, ahead of his second term, the Republican is renewing his efforts.

If the bill, called the Make Greenland Great Again Act, is passed, Trump could begin negotiations with Denmark on his first day in office.
“Congress hereby authorizes the President, beginning at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on January 20, 2025, to attempt to commence negotiations with the Kingdom of Denmark to secure the acquisition of Greenland by the United States,” a draft of the bill says .
“Not later than five calendar days after reaching an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark regarding the acquisition of Greenland by the United States, the President shall transmit to the appropriate congressional committees the agreement, including all related materials and attachments,” the report continues .
Ogles said in a statement to Fox News that the proposal will strengthen U.S. economic and national security interests.
“Joe Biden has put our reputation under fire for the past four years, and before he even came into office, President Trump is telling the world that America First is back,” the Republican said.
“American economic and security interests will no longer take a backseat, and Republicans in the House of Representatives stand ready to help President Trump deliver results for the American people,” his statement continued.
Greenland is one of the shortest oceanic crossings between North America and Europe and has incredible military and economic value for both the US and other interested parties such as China.
It is also home to the US Thule Air Base, which is critical to security in the Arctic. The base has a wide range of capabilities, such as missile defense, satellite tracking systems and more.

Trump has boasted about the island’s “so strategic location.”
The bill already has ten Republican co-sponsors who also want to push the bill to “make Greenland great again.”
“I think it’s a great move for the Trump team to try to make as many friends as possible because if we don’t, the Chinese will,” Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., told DailyMail .com from Jr. visit to Greenland last week.
The country is also important because it has a large supply of rare earth minerals, such as uranium, that are not found in the US, Burchett added.
“The idea of Greenland, there are a lot of mineral resources there,” House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green told DailyMail.com last week before adding that he is “open” to taking Greenland.
The Republican Party-backed proposal is the latest introduced by Republicans looking to make Trump’s many proposals a reality.
Last week, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., introduced a bill to officially rename the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of the Americas,” a policy change that Trump highlighted during a lengthy news conference.
