Trump’s border czar Tom Homan chokes back tears as he reveals the tragedy that ‘broke’ him
Tears filled the eyes of Trump’s border czar Tom Homan as he described seeing the migrant child whose death “broke him,” adding that the experience made him hardcore about securing the border.
“I’m standing in the back of a caravan with nineteen dead people at my feet, baked to death,” recalls Homan, who previously worked at the Immigration and Customs Service.
“All the dead were in their underwear trying to get some relief from the heat.”
The revelation is part of an interview between the Border Hawk and Dr. Phil, the Texas talk show host turned closed border advocate. It will air in part tonight, with a second part airing tomorrow.
“When I went to that crime scene and I found a five-year-old boy wearing Batman underwear – the same underwear that my son had, my five-year-old son,” the border czar said, his eyes welling up.
“Think of what that little boy went through, how he suffered. No one should have to suffer like this, and it broke me because I know it can be fixed. I know it can be prevented. If you have a secure border and people don’t make that journey, they don’t die.”
President-elect Donald Trump has tapped Homan to lead the “largest” deportation of migrants in US history when his administration takes power on January 20.

In the preview clip of Dr.’s network Phil did not specify when or where Homan witnessed the dead migrants, but not a year goes by without similar tragedies occurring across the country.
Illegal immigrants who pay smugglers in Mexico to sneak them into the U.S. are often lied to and placed in life-threatening conditions as they are moved from the border into the U.S. interior.
The deadliest smuggling incident in U.S. history occurred on June 27, 2022, when 53 migrants were found dead in San Antonio.
The Mexicans and Central Americans were trapped in an enclosed 18-wheeler, scratching and clawing at the inside of the vehicle when they could not escape the 140-degree temperature.
The big rig where the migrants were trafficked had no air conditioning, ventilation or exits.
The dead included six children and a pregnant woman, prosecutors said.
Homan said he sought help after witnessing the migrant deaths in the tractor-trailer firsthand.
“That incident on the tractor changed me forever,” he said.

‘I’m a tough guy, but I had to get help. When you have to deal with that much tragedy, it hits you.”
“People want to know why I’m so emotional about this and why I’m so hardcore, because I’m tired of it and I’ve tried to bury children and have women raped.”
Homan’s full interview with Dr. Phil airs Monday and Tuesday evenings on Merit TV.
