A resurfaced video from 2010 shows Donald Trump giving sweet words of wisdom to a then four-year-old Barron.
A lot has changed for the couple since then, as Donald has won the presidency twice and an 18-year-old Barron is now attending NYU business school.
The love between father and son is evident in the clip, which comes from an episode of Larry King’s old CNN talk show.
When he was better known as ‘The Donald’ from his NBC megahit The Apprentice, he gave extremely sound advice to his young son while asking for a kiss goodbye.
“I want all As,” Trump said, referring to his son’s grades. ‘And when you get older, no drugs. No alcohol. No cigarettes. And you know what else? No tattoos. I never want to see tattoos on you again.”
Barron then talks to his mother Melania, who informs him that he is about to have lunch and go to school.
He sees his father again, with a small suitcase in tow, as Trump says he’s going off to learn “reading, writing and arithmetic.”
The advice is consistent with Trump, who has been outspoken about his decision to be a teetotaler after the tragic death of his brother, Fred Trump Jr.

Trump has spoken candidly about Fred Jr.’s death. and told the New York Times that he was wrong to harass his brother when they were young because he had left the family real estate business.
Donald said he was “too young” at the time and wished he had told him, “You should do what you love.”
“I’ve known so many people who were so strong and powerful (yet) they couldn’t stop drinking,” he said.
“(Fred) was a great guy, a personable person. He was the life of the party. He was a great guy, but he was addicted to alcohol.
“And it had a profound impact and eventually (he) became an alcoholic and died of alcoholism. He said to me, ‘Never drink.’ He understood the problem he had and that it was a very difficult problem.”
In 2018, he suggested that he had never used drugs, adding to the claim that he had “never had a beer” as a young person or as an adult.
Trump told a reporter who asked about Brett Kavanaugh’s heavy underage drinking: “I don’t drink.” I’ve never had anything to drink. I don’t drink beer. I’ve never had a beer before. And I’m not saying good or bad, some people like it. I chose not to do that for many reasons.
‘I remember my student days, when everyone drank. It was like normal. I was abnormal. It was completely normal. Everybody was drinking and they drank a lot of beer and there was nothing going on,” he said on the South Lawn of the White House. ‘I just didn’t choose that, but almost everyone did. I don’t see anything wrong.’

Trump has told reporters he has never had a drink and joked “can you imagine” what “a mess I would be” if he had indulged in booze.
‘I’m not a drinker. I can honestly say that I have never had a beer in my life. It’s one of my only good qualities. I don’t drink. If they’re looking for something, I say, “I’ve never had a glass of alcohol. I’ve never had alcohol for any reason.” Can you imagine what a mess I would be if I had? I would be the worst in the world. But I never drank,” he said.
However, a book released in 2019 focuses on club owners, models and bartenders who were a staple of New York City nightlife in the 1990s and insist they saw the future president drinking.
The clip of Donald and Barron, now 18, resurfaces as there has been recent interest in Trump’s youngest son and only child with First Lady Melania.
The president-elect’s youngest child is rarely seen in public but is credited with helping his father earn the “bro vote” by having him participate in some podcast interviews.
The 6-foot-1 freshman was “very involved” in selecting the podcasts the former president would appear on and was the one who urged him to sit down with video game streamer Adin Ross as well as Joe Rogan, who hosts the most popular podcasts . podcast in the world.
In addition to appearing on podcasts, Trump also won over his brothers’ hyper-masculine voice by attending football games and UFC fights and tapping into young men’s interests in alternative banking by launching his own cryptocurrency company.
Barron was also reportedly a driving force behind the crypto decision.

On Election Day, his mother Melania posted online a photo she took of 18-year-old Barron in a voting booth, with the caption: “Voted for the first time – for his dad.”
During the Trump victory rally in the early hours of Wednesday, public fascination with Barron Trump surged online again — as it always does when he stands next to his father and it becomes clear how much bigger he is.
Donald Trump is said to be less than keen on this unflattering comparison and is doing his best to avoid getting too close to a son who is reportedly well over 6 feet tall.
All this from the young man who just a few years ago was a football-obsessed mama’s boy who was never allowed to stray too far from Melania. During his father’s first term as president, Barron became the first boy to grow up in the White House since JFK Jr. in 1963. And insiders said he was far friendlier and polite than they would ever expect from a Trump descendant.
However, he grew up quickly. In April of this year, after Barron had just turned 18, he invited a small group of influential podcasters and internet influencers to dinner at Mar-a-Lago.
“For an hour and a half we watched Barron provide the dinner with stories, entertainment and everything,” said Patrick Bet-David, one of the guests. Donald Trump even showed up later to play the role of DJ, using his iPad to play songs – incredibly loudly – such as Sinead O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’.
Then, in May, it was announced that Barron had been selected to serve as a Florida delegate to the Republican National Convention. However, just two days later, his mother declined the invitation on his behalf “due to prior commitments.”
Then in July, Trump formally introduced Barron to the political world at a rally in the Sunshine State, where he received two standing ovations.

As Barron sat down, his father told the crowd, “That’s the first time he’s done it [stood up to acknowledge applause]. That’s the first time, right? You’re quite popular. He might be more popular than Don and Eric. We need to talk about this. Hey, Don, we need to talk about this.”
As Trump’s two older sons, Don Jr. and Eric, sitting nearby, grinned faintly, their father added, “Welcome to the stage, Barron.”
By then, however, he hardly needed any introduction to the MAGA base. On social media, Barron mania is well established – with the youngest Trump child often compared to Alexander the Great and Augustus Caesar.
There is speculation that Trump – who can no longer count on the services of daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner in the government – might even pull Barron out of college to help him in the White House.
If so, he would certainly have his First Lady to answer to. Melania reportedly hates politics and resents the intense criticism she receives as a result of Trump’s political career.
Yet it may be that Barron was always destined for politics.
“He has a very strong mind… He’s independent and stubborn and knows exactly what he wants,” Melania once said of Barron to Parenting magazine. He was five at the time.
