A Trump supporter complained about the high cost of living under the Biden administration, but reacted strongly when asked about the cost of his expensive boat.
The MAGA Boat Parade in Panama City, Florida, drew crowds of enthusiasts, who rode around in luxury boats decorated with pro-Trump flags.
CNN correspondent Elle Reeve interviewed several attendees, one of whom did not appreciate her question.
Reeve asked his supporter, Joe Harner, what he thought was the “most important issue” regarding the upcoming election.
Joe Harner attended the MAGA boat parade in Panama City, Florida, where he was interviewed by CNN correspondent Elle Reeve and asked about his concerns about the upcoming election
The fan angrily told Reeve, “Listen, nobody gave me s***. I earned everything I got. I’m retired military, retired power plant, and I’m successful and retired.”
Harner told Reeve that the economy was his biggest concern. That included “getting interest rates down, getting it to what we can afford to live in America, right now it’s too expensive.”
However, Reeve stressed that the cost of his boat must be high enough that the sponsor can live comfortably enough on it to also pay for the boat’s maintenance and expenses.
‘Let me ask you a slightly rude question, but if you can afford a boat, you’re not so bad, are you? Because a boat costs a lot of money and it requires a lot of maintenance…’ she said.
Harner, now frustrated, responded, “Listen, nobody gave me s***. I earned everything I got. I’m retired military, retired power plant, and I’m successful and retired, with boats, jet skis, because I did well and everyone has that opportunity.”
“Whether they like it or not, that’s their business,” he added.
Harner explained to Reeve his concerns about the economy and said he wants his money to go further — and that goes for everyone. “Not just me, not just a poor person, not just a rich person, that goes for everyone,” he said.
Reeve then told Harner that she would “never try to take anything away from you like that,” but added: “I just find it interesting that people who are a little more comfortable are still so concerned about the economy.”
“Because I want my money to go further, I want inflation to go down, I want interest rates to go back down. I want all that, but so does everyone else in the economy,” Harner replied.
He continued: ‘Not just me, not just the poor, not just the rich, it’s everyone.’
Reeve then asked if Harner was also concerned that his children wouldn’t be able to afford a house or a car.
Harner responded that he had “raised” his children “well,” adding: “They’ve had a great education and they’re both successful.”
The comments under the video were mostly about the man complaining about the economy while partying on his boat.
Someone wrote: ‘”The problem is the economy, people can’t afford to live.” While this guy takes the day off to drink on his boat in the lake. You can’t make this stuff up.’
“Wait a minute, these guys can afford boats AND they claim “the economy is bad”?? THE HYPOCRISY,” said another.
Other commentators defended him, with one saying: ‘The Democrats in this comment section hate the American dream. This man worked his ass off to get his boat, and they’re attacking him because he wants others to have the same opportunity.’
