According to shocking reports, Donald Trump’s would-be assassin purchased 50 rounds of ammunition just hours before the shooting.
The Secret Service also failed to clear the roof where gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on the former president.
The shocking new developments reported by CNN come as the Secret Service faces mounting questions about how the 20-year-old managed to get just 400 feet from where Trump was delivering a speech in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

Several witnesses said they alerted police that a gunman was crawling across the building, but they did not respond before he began shooting.
“Look, they’re all pointing,” the man behind the camera can be heard saying as the camera pans from the stage to the roof of an industrial building, where a figure is crawling. “Yeah, there’s someone on the roof – look.”
The roof where Crooks lay with his weapon was considered a security risk and was checked by local police, not the Secret Service.
One bullet hit the former president in the ear, but his campaign team says he is otherwise “fine.”
According to his associates and analyses of the bullet trajectory, turning his head and looking at the large screen displaying graphs of immigration statistics saved his life.

Former fire chief Corey Comperatore, 50, was killed in the crosshairs of the attack while protecting his wife and two daughters. David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, were seriously injured but are now listed as stable. All three are from Pennsylvania.
The video shows a new angle of the shooter just before he opens fire. The screen reads: “Enough time and opportunity to eliminate the threat,” as questions swirl about where the security flaw was that allowed the assassination attempt.
“There he is, there. Do you see him?” the cameraman says, pointing to the figure of Crooks lying on his side atop the building in the video obtained by deaf North Carolina journalist Annie Dance.
