Donald Trump says Republicans need an act of God to find a candidate for the House of Representatives who can get the 217 votes needed to take the gavel.
Former President Donald Trump has yet to put a MAGA stamp of approval on any of the current candidates as the House of Representatives has been mired in chaos for 20 days without a speaker following the historic impeachment of Kevin McCarthy.
Trump was in New Hampshire on Monday to officially register to run in the 2024 Republican presidential primary and spoke to reporters about the “tumult,” as he put it, on Capitol Hill.
The ex-president revealed that front-runner Majority Whip Tom Emmer called him over the weekend about his perceived Trump problem — including the fact that the Minnesota Republican had voted to certify Democratic President Joe Biden’s 2020 White House victory to certify.
“I think he’s my biggest fan now because he called me yesterday. He told me, ‘I’m your biggest fan,'” Trump said, adding that he had spoken to a number of candidates for the House of Representatives.
A source familiar confirmed to DailyMail.com that Emmer and Trump spoke last weekend, calling it a “productive” conversation.

“But I’ve talked to virtually all the candidates, quite a few of them, and they’re great people, and then their threshold of four is very tough, it’s a very difficult thing,” Trump said, noting that no candidate for speaker could lose more than four Republican votes without Democratic support.
So far, Democrats have stayed in line, voting for Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries as chairman.
“I said there’s only one person who can do it all. Do you know who that is? Jesus Christ,” the ex-president continued, laughing.
“If he came down and said I want to be speaker, he could do it, other than that I haven’t seen anyone who can guarantee it,” Trump said. “But at some point I think we’ll have someone soon.”
And for now, the ex-president said he’s staying out of it.

Trump had initially endorsed Jim Jordan for speaker, but after three failed votes last week, the Ohio Republican was forced to withdraw.

He also played up his dominance in the presidential race while making history: He was the first former president to appear in person to participate in the New Hampshire primary.
“We’re only up 46 points, so we have to be careful,” Trump chuckled.
When asked whether Nikki Haley had overtaken Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as his main rival, Trump merely mocked DeSantis.
“I think DeSantis is really going down,” he said.
