Trump says he thought he had the ‘best debate’ and didn’t challenge moderators because he ‘wanted to be elegant’ though mocked David Muir’s hair in chatty Gutfeld interview
Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday that when he left the stage last week, he thought he had had “the best debate” and that he didn’t challenge the moderators because he “wanted to be elegant.”
Trump reflected on his confrontation with Vice President Kamala Harris last Tuesday on the Fox News program Gutfeld.
While most polls showed viewers were convinced Harris had decisively won last week’s debate in Philadelphia, Trump admitted he came away with a different impression.
“And I walked off that stage and I thought I had the best debate. And I was treated very unfairly by the host. I’m not a fan of those guys anymore. And his hair was better five years ago,” Trump said of ABC News’ David Muir. “That happens. That happens with the clock.”
Trump noted that he had been considered the best debate moderator of all time up to that point and complained that Muir and his co-moderator Linsey Davis had checked his facts “nine or 11 times” and never corrected Harris.

“And the crowd was absolutely — they went absolutely crazy,” Trump continued.
There was no audience present during the debate itself.
“I walked out, I said, that was a great debate. I loved it,” the Republican candidate said. “But this was something that was a very special moment. I thought this was a great debate.”
But then came the criticism, including rumors about the viral moment Trump falsely claimed Haitian immigrants were “eating pets” in Springfield, Ohio.
“It was all a bunch of wordy stuff from her,” he complained. “But the fake news said, ‘Oh, she did a good job.'”
Trump said he could have been Winston Churchill and the media would say, ‘Well, he was OK, but he wasn’t special tonight.’
“And I guess my only regret is that I tried to be elegant and not follow the anchors,” Trump said. “I wish I had done that anyway.”

Panelists on the evening program on Fox asked Trump a variety of questions, including whether aliens really existed and whether he owned jeans.
He could not provide any certainty about aliens.
“I don’t think I’m a believer, but I’ve interviewed pilots who looked like Tom Cruise, but better than Tom Cruise, the blond crew-cut style,” Trump recalled. “These are not people making up stories. They said, ‘All I know, sir, is there was a round object going four times the speed of my F-22.'”
“They’ve seen things they can’t explain,” Trump added.
He answered the question about jeans in the affirmative.
“I have a very old pair and I doubt I would fit into them,” the former president said.
Gutfeld also asked the billionaire and ex-president if he was wearing pajamas.
“I don’t do that,” Trump replied.
In a clip of the interview released before the episode aired, Gutfeld also asked Trump about his golf game, three days after an assassination attempt nearly took place at his West Palm Beach golf course.
“Well, I haven’t thought about it much lately,” Trump said, laughing. “I’ve always said golf is a very dangerous sport.”
The Fox host joked, “It is, especially when they’re playing with you.”
As the audience groaned, Gutfeld said, “What? Was that a mean joke?”
“If they had told you the shooter was there, would you have taken him out with your 3-wood?” Gutfeld asked Trump.
“I think so,” the former president replied.
