Trump Now Leads DeSantis by 41 POINTS: Ex-President Takes Biggest Lead Yet – Despite Still Legal Troubles and All Eyes on Florida Governor Awaiting Potential Announcement

  • The poll is yet another blow to DeSantis’ faltering campaign
  • Trump has been berating the governor of Florida for months for not filing charges
  • The real estate magnate is the absolute favorite for the Republican nomination

Former President Donald Trump leads presumptive candidate Ron DeSantis by 41 percentage points, according to a new poll of Republican voters.

The study by the Morning Consult firm found that 60% of GOP loyalists will vote for the real estate tycoon in a primary runoff for the presidential nomination.

But only 19% say they plan to support the 44-year-old former congressman who has been hit by a series of stabbing attacks from Trump and his allies.

The findings show that Trump’s position with Republicans does not appear to be affected by the lawsuits he faces or his false claims that the 2020 election was a solution.

A jury in New York is expected to rule soon in a civil lawsuit brought by a journalist alleging that Trump raped her in a department store in 1996.

The former commander-in-chief will appear Wednesday night on CNN, a network he has repeatedly clashed with, for a “town hall-style” debate in New Hampshire.

Gov. of Florida, Ron DeSantis

The numbers will also put pressure on DeSantis, the current governor of Florida, to formally announce his intention to run for the White House.

He’s been running a presidential campaign in all but name in recent months, even making overseas trips to the UK, Japan and Israel.

Allies close to the Navy veteran say he will declare within the first two weeks of June, either in his Florida hometown of Dunedin or in a key battlefield state.

A similar survey conducted by RealClearPolitics from April 11 through May 3 found Trump leading DeSantis by 52.2% to 23.1%, an advantage of nearly 30 percentage points.

The couple was the clear frontrunner in the Morning Consult survey of nearly 3,500 Republican voters with Mike Pence and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy next with 5 percent each.

Ramaswamy is officially entering the race, but Pence has not yet said if he will be entering.

Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, who served as Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations, sits at just 3%.

Governor DeSantis has come under fire from critics in recent weeks after he signed into law a series of hardline abortion and capital punishment bills in an apparent attempt to burn down the GOP base.

He was also embroiled in a so-called “war on wake” with Disney after the animation and theme park giant criticized its “Don’t Say Gay” legislation.

The battle began last year after the company publicly opposed a state law banning classroom classes on sexual orientation and gender identity in the first grades.

DeSantis faces a legal challenge in court after creating a board of trustees for Disney World’s governing district made up of members he appointed.

While DeSantis has risen in the national GOP ranks due to his Florida pandemic response, the governor has recently been sliding in the 2024 presidential election.

He even got an early bump that even saw him beat Trump on occasion.

The winner of a Republican primary would almost certainly face incumbent Joe Biden, raising the prospect of a rematch with Trump in 2020.

Only no-hopers Robert F Kennedy Jr, an anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist, and self-help author Marianne Williamson have expressed their intention to run in the Democratic primary.

Trump and Biden are gearing up for a 2020 rematch in the 2024 presidential race unless DeSantis can turn his plummeting polls.
