‘Here’s what she does’: Trump hits back at Kaitlan Collins when she says he only built ’52 miles of new wall’ – as he claims migrants sleep in Central Park and the end of Title 42 a ‘day of infamy’ will be

  • The ex-president falsely claimed to have completed his border wall project
  • His comments come amid the expiration of Title 42, a coronavirus emergency law to kick out migrants
  • Trump said Thursday would be “a day of infamy” with a surge of asylum seekers crossing

Donald Trump warned the US faces a “day of shame” and is about to be swamped with “tens of thousands of migrants” when Covid-era powers expire on Thursday.

“The border is a disaster,” said the former president. “I built hundreds of miles of wall and I finished it. I started another hundred miles of wall and then…we had rigged elections.”

He said migrants in New York’s Central Park slept on the streets because shelters were so overcrowded.

CNN anchor Kaitlin Collins grilled the 76-year-old about whether that was factually accurate, prompting a furious response from the ex-commander.

“This is what she does,” Trump exclaimed, calling Collins “a mean person.”

The real estate tycoon has regularly clashed with CNN since 2015, labeling the network as so-called “fake news.”

The fight came just before another aspect of the Trump administration’s border policy — Title 42 restrictions — was due to fall.

The emergency restriction — first introduced in 1944 and intended to curb the spread of disease — was seized upon by the Trump administration in early 2020 to allow for the immediate deportation of migrants to limit the spread of Covid-19.

After taking office in January 2021, President Joe Biden has maintained the policy. And in total, it has been used to deport more than two million migrants over the past three years.

With Title 42 gone, Title 8 of the Immigration and Nationality Act becomes the new watchword.

It gives asylum seekers the opportunity to participate in a ‘believable fear’ interview with an officer or judge.

If they fail, they will soon be able to board a plane back to their home country or Mexico through an expedited removal procedure.

Border patrols have been facing staffing problems for months, according to a bombshell report from a government watchdog.

Otherwise, they can start the lengthy asylum process.

Republicans have also criticized Joe Biden for scrapping the $16.8 billion border wall project on his first day in office in 2021.

Just after town hall ended, the Trump campaign said in a statement that the ex-president had successfully set out his vision for 2024.

“President Trump will save the economy, reduce inflation, secure the border, crush the Deep State and prevent World War III,” the campaign said in a statement.
