Former President Donald Trump’s team is looking to November 14 — the Monday after the midterm elections — as the date when he will announce his presidential bid for 2024.
Axios reported the date Fridaywith sources telling the news site that the announcement would then be followed by a series of political events.
Trump came close to announcing a 2024 bid at a Thursday night rally in Iowa — which will host the country’s first presidential contest — and on the anniversary of his 2020 election loss.
“And now, to make our country successful, safe and glorious, I will very, very, very likely do it again,” he said. ‘OKAY? Very, very, very likely. Very, very, very likely.’
He told the excited Sioux City crowd to “be ready!” “That’s all I’ll tell you shortly,” he added.
Trump came close to announcing a 2024 bid at a Thursday night rally in Iowa — which will host the country’s first presidential contest — and on the anniversary of his 2020 election loss.
The Iowa performance was the first in a series of rallies leading up to the midterms.
Trump will also make an appearance in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, a town outside of Pittsburgh, to stop before Republican Senate hopeful Dr. Mehmet Oz, and GOP governor candidate Doug Mastriano.
From there, he heads to Miami, Florida to perform alongside Republican Senator Marco Rubio.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who often comes in second when Republicans are asked who they want to see as their nominee in 2024, will not attend.
On Monday night, Trump travels to Ohio to give JD Vance a final boost in his U.S. Senate race against Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan.
Both Oz and Vance gained Trump’s backing over more traditional Senate candidates this cycle.
Axios reported that Trump “intends to surf the GOP’s expected post-midterm euphoria” to build excitement around his own bid to retake the White House.
However, if Senate control has not yet been determined — possibly due to a Georgia runoff between Republican Herschel Walker and incumbent Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock — Trump can wait, Axios said.
Traditionally, presidential candidates don’t start their announcement until the beginning of the year after the midterms.
In the 2020 cycle, Senator Elizabeth Warren announced that she would form an exploratory committee on New Year’s Eve 2018. She officially became a candidate in February 2019.
President Joe Biden waited until the end of April 2019 to announce it.
Trump announced his first presidential bid in June 2015, as he descended the golden escalator at Trump Tower, and paid actors to fill the crowd.
