Donald Trump said Liz Cheney’s losing her Wyoming at-large House seat in Tuesday’s primary sets the stage for the dissolution of the select committee probing the January 6 Capitol riot.
GOP Representative Cheney lost to Trump-backed Harriet Hageman by a landslide 37.4 points.
Trump was overjoyed by Tuesday’s election results after making it his revenge mission to get Cheney voted out of her House seat, claiming it was a ‘far bigger’ loss than he anticipated.
He insisted the election outcome was also a denunciation of the January 6 investigation.
Hageman will almost assuredly win in November’s general election in deep red Wyoming, which voted 69.9 percent for Trump in the 2020 presidential election – making it the most pro-MAGA state.
Cheney sealed her fate by continuously breaking with Trump while he was president, voting for his impeachment and becoming one of just two Republicans on the January 6 committee.
Donald Trump said Liz Cheney’s primary loss in Wyoming Tuesday night paves the way for the ‘dissolution’ of the January 6 select committee
The former president claimed that the election was a ‘referendum’ on the panel trying to peg the Capitol attack last year on Trump
All of these actions led to the Wyoming GOP censuring Cheney despite being a household name in the Cowboy State. It also saw her lose her No. 3 post in the House Republican Conference, being replaced by New York Representative Elise Stefanik as chairwoman.
Trump claimed in a Truth Social post just after midnight that Cheney’s defeat paved the way for the dissolution of the January 6 panel.
‘I assume that with the very big Liz Cheney loss, far bigger than had ever been anticipated, the January 6th Committee of political Hacks and Thugs will quickly begin the beautiful process of DISSOLUTION? This was a referendum on the never ending Witch Hunt,’ Trump posted to his alternative social media site.
‘The people have spoken!’ he lauded.

Before the election results came in, Trump said in a separate post that the ‘fake news media will do everything within their power’ to make a distinction between Cheney losing and a ‘referendum on the Unselects’.
Trump has dubbed the House select committee on January 6 the ‘unselect committee’ as a way to voice his disapproval of their proceedings, which aim to peg the riot last year on the former president.
Cheney is one of 10 Republican representatives who voted for Trump’s impeachment in relation to the riot. Of those 10 lawmakers, only two have won their primaries while the rest have either been voted out or are retiring.
Representative Adam Kinzinger of Illinois is the other Republican on the select committee. He decided not to run for reelection in his district in the 2022 midterms.
Cheney made clear in her concession speech Tuesday night and her subsequent interview Wednesday morning that she is weighing running for president in 2024.
She also compared herself to Abraham Lincoln, who lost several elections before becoming president – and said that she called her competitor Hageman to concede and congratulate her on her victory.
Trump said in a Truth Social post before the results came in Tuesday evening that people would try to downplay Cheney’s loss, and claimed ‘fake news media’ would attempt to ‘pretend it was not a referendum on the Unselects’

Trump wasn’t impressed by her speech.
‘Liz Cheney’s uninspiring concession speech, in front of a ‘tiny’ crowd in the Great State of Wyoming, focused on her belief that the 2020 Presidential Election was not, despite massive and conclusive evidence to the contrary, Rigged & Stolen,’ Trump posted to Truth Social Tuesday night.
‘It was, and that’s not even counting the fact that many election changes, in numerous States, were not approved by State Legislatures, an absolute must. Liz Cheney is a fool who played right into the hands of those who want to destroy our Country!’
