Trump and Harris keep campaigning after Milton hits Florida

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris visits Nevada and Arizona while he was a former president Donald Trump speaks about economic issues in Michigan, even as the presidential campaigns continue Hurricane Milton Hitting Florida.

Trump spoke at the Economic Club of Detroit on Wednesday after holding rallies in Pennsylvania on Wednesday. Harris is attending a Univision town hall in Las Vegas and an evening meeting in Phoenix while staying in close contact with the White House and overseeing federal disaster response efforts.

President Joe Bidenwho said that Milton ‘looks like the storm of the century’, a trip to Germany and Angola postponed to deal with its aftermath. He and Harris sat with top officials in the Situation Room to discuss disaster response.

But even in the midst of the hurricane, both the Harris and Trump campaigns are using their trips strategically, trying to boost support among key voting blocs that could decide an election that is expected to be extraordinarily close.

Trump has emphasized winning votes in heavily Hispanic parts of Pennsylvania, including Reading, where he held a rally on Wednesday. Harris is out West as her campaign looks to boost support among Hispanic voters there, especially men. Her campaign kicked off this week with a group known as “Hombres con Harris.”

Harris’ running mate, governor of Minnesota. Tim Walzattended a Hombres kickoff event with Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallegoand actor Jaime Camil Wednesday in Phoenix. Similar rallies were held elsewhere in Arizona, as well as in Nevada and Pennsylvania.

The group plans to host events at Latino-owned small businesses, union halls, barbecues and community events through Election Day.

The Harris campaign has also aimed to reach Hispanic voters who may not be following the election closely, such as having Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Harris’ campaign manager, attend the recent boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas and organize events. in churches and elsewhere on the occasion of Mexican Independence Day in September.

Harris’ campaign also announced last month that it was spending $3 million on Spanish-language radio ads and targeting sporting events such as baseball games and boxing matches.

Meanwhile former president Barack Obama will also be campaigning on Thursday evening, making his first appearance for Harris at a rally in Pittsburgh.

That starts with what the Harris campaign says will be a series of campaign stops that Obama will make on behalf of the vice president. Biden campaigned in suburban Philadelphia on Monday but has appeared with Harris only once, joining her on Labor Day in Pittsburgh, since he announced he left the race and supported her in July.

Obama was among the most important Democrats which were part of a behind-the-scenes effort to encourage Biden, his former vice president, to resign. Obama and Harris have also been friends for 20 years, since he ran for Senate in Illinois. She campaigned for him when he became president in 2008.
