Shock moment huge B-double truck overturns just metres from petrol bowsers on the Hume Highway

Motorists have been told to expect significant delays after a B-double truck overturned just meters from fuel tanks at a servo on the Hume Highway.

NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW crews have been on the scene since mid-morning on Friday after the massive truck overturned just meters from fuel tanks at a Sutton Forest servo in the Southern Highlands.

Firefighters and HAZMAT specialists worked to ensure the area is safe and remove fuel from the truck.

Officers present were told the truck – which was carrying pet food – overturned while they were attempting to make a turn.

The driver, 51, was treated by paramedics for non-life-threatening head wounds and rushed to Liverpool Hospital.

Social media has been ablaze with reactions to the turnover, but an Australian who claimed to have witnessed the moment rushed to the driver’s defense.

“We were on scene and he was not speeding,” she wrote online.

‘He had a medical problem, but by driving well he managed to avoid the truck hitting the bowsers. It could have been so much worse.”
