A trucker has been charged in a collision with a school bus that injured more than two dozen students and teachers.

The force of the collision caused the bus to plummet down an embankment of the Western Highway in Pentland Hills.

The school bus, carrying 27 students and four teachers, rolled 50m behind it and a truck collided in the confusion of a previous truck crash (pictured, emergency services on scene)

There were 27 students and five adults on board the bus, which was due to travel to Melbourne airport.

A 60-year-old Croydon man has been charged with 46 offences, including reckless conduct causing serious injury and reckless conduct endangering life.

He was due to appear in Melbourne Magistrate Court on Monday afternoon.
