Troye broke his silence over the controversy Billboard on Tuesday, that body image didn’t even cross his mind when he was filming the clip.

“I certainly hear the criticism. To be honest, it just wasn’t a thought we had,” the former YouTuber said.

“We obviously didn’t say, ‘We want to have one specific type of person in the video.’ We’ve just shot the video and not much thought has gone into it.’

“There was this article yesterday and they were talking about [the lack of body diversity]and in the same sentence this person said ‘Eat something, you stupid twinks.’

“That really bothered me to read that because I’ve had my own insecurities with my body image. I think everyone’s body is just as beautiful as it is, including mine, and it just sucks to see people talking about other people’s bodies.”

The movie clip, directed by Gordon von Steiner, opens with a man slapping his own brutal derrière, before Troye parties with shirtless male dancers at a pool party.

While the video was praised for the choreography and references for LGBTQ+ culture, many viewers were dissatisfied with the lack of bigger bodies.
