Troye Sivan, Dean Lewis and Sia scoop top honours at 2024 APRA Music Awards… but none of them attend the ceremony

Troye Sivan, Dean Lewis and Sia emerged as the big winners at this year’s APRA Music Awards, held in Sydney.

Celebrated annually, this star-studded event recognizes the outstanding achievements of Australian songwriters and artists.

Sivan, the pop sensation who has taken the global music scene by storm, has won the prestigious Song of the Year award for his hit song Rush.

Not only has the song been streamed more than 300 million times worldwide, but it has also racked up two Grammy nominations and won the same category at last year’s ARIA Awards.

Lewis also stood out with his emotional ballad How Do I Say Goodbye, inspired by his father Grant’s battle with cancer.

He won the most performed Australian work and the most performed pop work.

He accepted the awards via video link from his tour of America and dedicated his win to his father, who is currently in good health and will be joining him on tour.

“This song is about my dad and he’s doing well, he’s doing great. He just had the best time touring with me and being on stage at some shows, which was a lot of fun,” Lewis said, his voice full of emotion.

Most of the night’s big winners, including the Teskey Brothers, are currently touring abroad.

However, at the event, rocker Jimmy Barnes was in good spirits as he led the arrivals following his recent open heart surgery.

In December, the Scottish-born singer, 67, underwent the procedure after being struck by a life-threatening infection that affected his heart.
