Troy Deeney fails to get a SINGLE answer right in his specialist subject in dismal showing on Celebrity Mastermind… at the same time as new manager’s Forest Green Rovers can’t get off the mark against Gillingham in 0-0 draw

Troy Deeney may have been awarded a single point for his opening draw in charge of Forest Green Rovers but could not get off the ground in an episode of Celebrity Mastermind that aired simultaneously on Friday evening.

The former Watford striker was appointed as head of the League Two club following the departure of head coach David Horseman just five months after his appointment.

Deeney has been with the 23rd-placed club since August, when he signed as a player-coach with a view to gaining his qualifications while assisting Horseman.

But on Wednesday Deeney saw Deeney take charge of the team on a permanent basis, with the aim of saving the team from relegation.

Forest Green Rovers are just five points from safety but added to their tally after a 0-0 draw against Gillingham, who are ninth.

As Deeney watched the tie from the sidelines, viewers of the festive version of the hit BBC quiz show saw the head coach score another clean sheet in a woeful effort in the 'specialist subject' section of the programme.

After choosing Sam Raimi's Spiderman film trilogy, Deeney was faced with the nerve-wracking task of being the first to sit in the historic chair.

Unable to answer any questions correctly, Deeney took away his slight humiliation in good humor and laughed himself off the stage.

'That chair, this atmosphere…' suggested presenter Clive Myrie to conclude his round.

“It's intense,” Deeney agreed, before Myrie announced he had finished “with no points.”

The League Two manager chuckled lightly to himself as he returned to his seat.

Deeney fared better in the general knowledge round, gaining the six points needed to earn him third place.

Dana came fourth with a paltry five points, Jasmine Harman scored 12 and the show was won that night by OJ Borg with 16 points.

Deeney had grown more confident about the job needed at the New Lawn Stadium after his appointment earlier this week.

“I know fans will have a lot of questions, which will be answered as soon as possible,” Deeney said when he was announced.
